Q. What does it cost and how do I pay?

A. Jidel are pleased to encourage new members, and will generally offer 4 weeks free Judo  to let you see if you like Judo.  Regularly attending members pay by Direct Debit. Q. As a newcomer I don't have a license - can I not compete at all?

A. Without a license you will not be allowed to compete in official events.  However, Jidel Judo club runs a number of "Mix & Match" events each year, where you are placed in a group of 4 judo players chosen for similar levels of ability, weight and age.  These are great fun events that give you an idea of what it is like to fight in a "proper" competitiion.

There are also "friendly" competitions with other clubs in Scotland, along the same lines as the Jidel Mix & Match but with a wider field of competitors.

At a Mix & Match, everyone goes away with a medal or trophy.

Q. Can I enter official competitions?

A. As a member of Jidel Judo club you would be asked to obtain a Judo License from Judo Scotland, the main governing body for Judo in Scotland.  Judo Scotland are affiliated to the British Judo Association who are members of the International Judo Federation.  This enables registered club members at the appropriate standard to referee or compete in events all the way up to the Olympic Games.

Q. What should I wear to training sessions?

A. If you have one, a judo suit should be worn - they are very tough (bear in mind that your entire body weight can be lifted from a grip on your clothing).  If you are new to Judo, simply wear a loose fitting outfit of a (proferably long sleeved) top and trousers - something like an old tracksuit would do.  Please note that whatever you wear could be ripped, so don't wear your latest super-lightweight designer tracksuit!
